How long have you been working at CLH? 

I have been at CLH for seven years and three months. 

What is your role at CLH / what does your job involve?

I wonder myself sometimes, as I have a very varied job role! 

I am internally based and my everyday jobs consist of managing several of our key accounts (being a point of contact so that I am always on hand to answer their questions and sort any issues), organising marketing material, literature and branding designs, and also managing quotations for potential new accounts and price review’s for existing accounts.

I am also a bit of a technical advisor on several ranges of our equipment including pressure care products, alarm mat systems, and cleaning machinery, such as carpet and vacuum cleaners. I am regularly fixing equipment that comes back to our workshop, so have the hands-on experience to be able to offer support to our customers over the phone whenever they have any technical issues.

Apart from that, I try to be willing to help out when the pressure is on in any area of the business, I feel it is important to have a grasp of all that goes on in the areas that I’m not usually involved in – it can help you to get along with everyone and overcomes a ‘them-and-us’ culture between office, warehouse, technical and external sales teams!

What do you enjoy most about your job / what do you find most rewarding?

I enjoy how varied it is and appreciate that I am given relative freedom in how I plan my day – as long as the job gets done then they don’t mind how I do it! This means I can always ensure 100% (hopefully!) focus on a particular job as there’s no burn-out due to being stuck at the same task hour after hour.

Probably the most rewarding part is when I hear that an important customer has told the management that they are very happy with our service and have literally no complaints or issues to raise with us. It’s nice to know that those who care for the sick and infirm have the back-up and support at CLH to enable them to work unhindered.

Do you have any stories that you can share about going the extra mile for your customers?

Yes, we do it every day really. I often find myself pleading with the warehouse staff to put a late order on the van. It’s a lot easier to tell the customer that they’ve placed the order too late and can’t have it tomorrow, but that’s not going the extra mile for them is it?

What do you like to do when you’re not at work / what are your hobbies and interests?

I love walking the moors and coast path in the South West, particularly when it’s wet and foggy and I can dress up against the elements and do a bit of orienteering. I now have a 3-month-old baby girl, so this is something that has had to be put on hold for the time being. I guess my prime interests are my wife and daughter, when I’m not at work I spend all my time with them.

Do you have an idol / hero?

I certainly don’t idolise anyone famous – I don’t know them well enough to know what they’re really like. I think we owe a lot to Winston Churchill though, not just in this country but across the world – no doubt that is very controversial to some!
